ABOUT US

Nestled within the historic city of Port Louis lies House of Lords—a beverage company specializing in ageing, blending, and bottling premium liquor beverages. Founded by the chemist Dr. Sukhbir Puri, His journey intertwines passion for distinctive blends and the sugarcane heritage of Mauritius.

From the prominent sugarcane fields of Mauritius emerged the renowned sugarcane juice rum and molasse-based rum, a derivative of sugarcane juice deeply rooted in our heritage, and Dr. Puri fell in love with this. This rum legacy, the Mauritian joyful ambience, the spirit of camaraderie, and the unmistakable easy-living lifestyle motivated him and his 40-year-in-the-making connoisseur nose and palate to launch House of Lords when he first arrived on the island years ago.

Today, with the experience of the founder and his growing team of experts, they bring the finest flavours and notes out of our crafts with our unique savoir-faire, all while honouring the island’s history. 

The comprehensive range of premium rum, liqueur, and aperitif is titled Port Louiis, after the capital city, and the premium French brandy is named Louis XV—King of France, from whom the capital derived its name.

Our excellence has been rewarded with accolades, notably the ‘Superior Taste Award’ in 2022 and 2023 from the International Taste Institute in Brussels, the ‘Médaille d’Argent 2022’ in the spirits selection by ‘Concours Mondial de Bruxelles’ and GOA Awards by Alcobuzz in 2021 in various categories.

The Founder

The Journey of a Good Spirit: Dr. Puri

In the ever-evolving alcoholic beverage industry, Dr. Sukhbir Puri, the Managing Director of House of Lords Beverages, emerges as a figure of innovation and leadership.

For close to three decades, the chemist has been contributing to the growth of various renowned beverage & non-beverage companies alike. He started his adventure with Escorts Limited, followed by Foseco International Limited, and IDI, known today as Diageo—an industry leader recognized for iconic brands such as Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, and Cîroc, among others.

His adventure continued with Jubilant Organosys Ltd., Blossom Industries Limited, a brewery plant that is considered among the most modern of its kind, and Tilakanagr Industry Ltd. before founding House of Lords.

Upon his journey to Mauritius, he discovered a home away from home. The camaraderie, the good spirit of the locals, and the Mauritian rum-making heritage conquered his heart. For a man accustomed to the bustling city of India, it was a change — and this marked the beginning of his thrilling adventure.

In 2016, Dr. Puri temporarily set aside his laboratory coat and put on a suit and tie to create House of Lords—an expression of his love for the Mauritius legacy and his passion for chemistry. 

The chemist of Indian descent also cares about preserving the captivating Mauritian landscape for future generations, with the introduction of House of Lords’ latest creation, Le Morne Gold Flakes Rum. The company donates 1€ per bottle sold to the Le Morne Heritage Trust Fund (LMHTF), dedicated to protecting the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

House of Lords’ motto: “Bring a smile with every sip,” reflects the brand’s commitment to crafting exceptional experiences for its customers, for which Dr. Puri is not willing to give anything besides his very best while positively impacting the community and beyond.
